Gail Kitzul
With profound sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Chere Gail Kitzul, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Gail passed away peacefully on August 28 at the Atikokan General Hospital, surrounded by family.
Gail was born in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba on January 5, 1948, and subsequently raised in and around the Atikokan area. Gail had very fond memories of growing up at Mando Camp and French Lake.
Gail was an outgoing person who loved to help and care for others. She enjoyed baking and cooking for anyone and everyone – especially friends and family. Gail’s delicious birthday cakes were legendary. This birthday baking trend is something she loved and continued to do during her time at Aspen Court. Creative decorating and gardening were Gail’s other passions. People would often look upon her beautifully flowered yard with amazement and awe. Gail had a knack for making everything she touched look beautiful – her flowers, crafts, home, and decorations for the holidays.
Some other fun activities Gail loved to do included bowling, playing bingo, visiting the casino from time to time, and travelling with friends and family; especially going to Texas and Arizona.
Gail especially enjoyed the activities she did alongside her husband, Dennis, even if it was just sitting quietly outside together. Gail loved to socialize, whether it was in Wagon’s West or places around home, and she often left people laughing at her funny stories or silly antics.
Gail worked as a florist in Atikokan (Frankie’s Flowers) and in Fort Frances (Fort Floral). She was also the bingo hall manager at Couchiching for many years while living in Fort Frances.
She moved to Aspen Court in the Fall of 2021 and loved the time she spent with her friends at the residence or while visiting the Pioneer Centre.
Gail will be greatly missed by her children Ric Kitzul and Cheryl Williams (Kitzul); son-in-law David Williams; grandsons Scott and Eric Williams; sisters Eydie, Judy, and Marilyn; Bob and Renate (Kitzul); Marianne Kitzul; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Gail was pre-deceased by Dennis Kitzul, her loving husband and partner for just over forty years; her parents George and Hilda Anderson; sister Winnie Skrenski; and her brothers Alvin, Ronnie, and Neil Anderson. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made on her behalf to Atikokan General Hospital, the Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.
A small Celebration of Life will be announced later.
Within Our Hearts
Your warmth and kindness
enveloped us in love.
And although the light in your eyes has gone,
The brightness in our hearts will go on.
For the love and joy
you gave to friends and family,
Will be forever kept,
Within our hearts.
