Charlotte Elaine Hodge Shackelford – age 81, passed from her earthly life to her heavenly home on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, after a brief illness. She was a devout Christian and member of Mount Harmony Baptist Church. Charlotte was born on March 19,1941 in Knoxville, Tennessee, to Harlan Otis and Margaret Schneider Hodge, and she married John Monroe Shackelford, Jr. on May 17, 1958. Theirs was an incredibly blessed marriage that included her son, Scott Monroe Shackelford, and daughter, Karen Shackelford Hodge (Randall). John passed away in 2002, and Charlotte has longed to reunite with her precious John in heaven.
She is preceded in death by her husband, mother, father; sister, Emily Hodge Cain; and brother-in-law, John W. Cain.
She is survived by her brother, Jerry L. Hodge (Frances). Charlotte was a beloved “Nana” to Lauren Hodge and Nathan Hodge (Katie). She took great joy and pride in her grandchildren. Blessed with strength to overcome adversity, blessed with so much love for her family, friends, neighbors, and community, and blessed with faith as her cornerstone, Charlotte lived a full and wonderful life. Though she is sorely missed, her family finds comfort in knowing that she is healed and dancing in the streets of gold with her Savior and her loved ones.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 28, 2023, from 12:00 – 2:00 PM at Bridges Funeral Home immediately followed by a funeral service with Dr. Bruce Martin officiating. The burial service will be held at Thorn Grove Cemetery (721 S Carter School Road, Strawberry Plains) at 3:30 PM on the same day.
