Peacefully at Groves Memorial Community Hospital, Fergus, Ontario, Canada on Saturday March 2nd at the age of 88, born in 1935, Netherhouse, Sandwick, Orkney.
Charlie’s life was a quiet one, he loved farming, fishing, family and visiting his birthplace, Orkney. Devoted husband to Gwen (Herdman) for 61 years. Dear Dad of Yvonne Flett(Raymond), Sonia Smith, Lorene Smith and Charles Smith Jr. Cherished Grandad of Scott (Fiona), Lynsay, Blair ( Steve), Melissa (Tyler), Hayley, Jesse, Vicki (Isaac). Great-Grandad (Papa) of Hunter, Ryder, Norah, Callum and Joey. Loving brother of Lawrence. Predeceased by siblings Annie, Sandy, Willie, Chrissy, Jock, Victor, Mary, Arthur & infant sister Margaret. Charlie will be greatly missed by family and friends in Orkney and Canada.

A Private Family Service will be held at Dods & McNair Funeral Home, Chapel & Reception Centre 21 First St Orangeville, Ontario. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to Groves Memorial Community Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
A tree will be planted in memory of Charlie in the Dods & McNair Memorial Forest at the Island Lake Conservation Area, Orangeville. 22nd Annual Dedication Service will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2024 at 2:00 p.m.
