We are grieving the loss and celebrating the life of Chuck. He was a devoted husband to Tere for 60+ years and a proud and loving father to lan and daughter-in-law, Martha.
Chuck was born in Vancouver to Gladys MacInnes the youngest of two boys. As a young lad he attended Vancouver College but graduated from Kitsilano High School. He was a life long student of history and attended the University of Hamburg, Germany on a scholarship. He graduated from the University of B.C. with a Batchelor of Arts and a master’s degree. He later received a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Victoria. He worked for the Provincial Government in Mental Health before moving to and retiring from management in the Correctional Service of Canada.
After retirement, he and Tere travelled world wide on many expeditions. His happiest times, however, were spent at the cabin they built in the Shuswap (He had two memorable moments by falling off the roof twice). There, they communed with nature, lying in the meadow next to the campfire, admiring the stars, and the many birds and animals that inhabited and passed through the area. This time spent with the close-knit families who made up and shared «The Land» was precious. He recalled the laughter, and the fun of the many bocce, card, board games, and the sing alongs. He enjoyed of course, the single malt Scotch that topped off the evening and who could forget his Martinis. Chuck had wide interests including music, art, rare coins and stamps, Japanese sword furniture and Ukiyo-e from the Edo period. He excelled at business finance and enjoyed following the market because it «keeps my brain active». He used this talent to mentor others. He was humble, kind, generous and always saw the positive in people and the humour in life.
We leave some last words from Chuck. «I am so grateful for the life I have had and the family and friends who surrounded me. I’m a very lucky guy.»
Chuck’s ashes will be given to the sea as he had wished.
