It is our sad duty to announce that Cecilia Rose Alba Agostino, aged 102 years, of Thunder Bay passed away peacefully at the Southbridge Roseview Care Home. She was the widow of the late James Agostino.
Celie’s father was a lumberman who owned a sawmill near White River. Just before the onset of the Great Depression, the Allard family moved to Fort William. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic School in Chapleau, St. Stanislaus Catholic School and graduated St. Patrick High School; both in Fort William. During WWII she worked in the Time Office at Canada Car for Nels Scavarelli. Later, she worked as secretary for over 17 years at Thunder Bay Television until her retirement in 1982. Celie loved people and enjoyed a wide circle of friends. Her other passion in life was the study of oil painting.
Celie was born the youngest of nine children in Chapleau, Ontario to parents, Azarie Allard and Anna Georgiana (nee Lariviere). She is predeceased by siblings; Alice (Edward Rea), Yvonne (James) Maycock, Beatrice (Archibald) Snider, Anita (Allan) Don Carlos, Eda-Mae (Lawrence) Holden, Leona (Dante) Serra, Rheal (Joyce) Allard, Romeo (Patricia) Allard, and dear friend of over 35 years, Bill Boquist. She is survived by her daughter, Gabrielle Beaupre; son, Jamie Davidson; daughter-in-law, Karen Duffield and many nieces and nephews.
Cremation has been carried out. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
We wish to express our heartfelt gratitude to Deacon Andre Nichol of St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church and the staff at Southbridge Roseview for their care and compassion during mother’s final months. Those who knew Celie are asked to perform an act of kindness in honour of her remarkable life.
