BROWN, Cecil Clarence, age 93, formerly of New Minas, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 27,2024 at Shannex long term care home, Greenwich. He was the eldest son of the late Clarence and Zelphia Mae (Schofield) Brown.
Cecil is survived by his loving wife, Linda (Allen) Brown. Sons: Clarence (Joanne) White, Pugwash Darren, Canning; Andrew, Kentville; stepdaughters: Correna Kelly, Grand Pre’; Ronda Hill Alberta. Nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and extended family. Sisters: Faye (Richard) Palmeter, Avonport Glenice (Stephen) Misner, Chipman Brook; Brothers: Dennis (Diane) Mt. Denson; Laurie (Anne) New Minas; sister-in-law Betty, St. Croix.
Cecil was Predeceased by daughter, Monica Dorion; sisters Stella Veinot, Marion Wilkins, Christina Brown and Gene Brown; Brothers Walton, Lloyd and Phillip.
Cecil spent his childhood in Greenfield, going to work at a young age at Wolfville Bakery. In 1954 he joined the Canadian Army, with a posting in Germany. There he became a pastry chef, butcher and other weapon related trades. After being stationed in Gagetown, New Brunswick, he owned and operated two autobody shops; often obtaining an old car he’d drive in a crash derby. He always made sure he got time in for hunting and fishing; he loved being surrounded by nature. Each year he volunteered as a cook for Boy Scouts, which brought him great joy; they gave him the nickname» Brownie». Cecil liked to learn new skills and took courses in electrical and architecture, which was an asset later when he built a couple of houses and did many repairs.
When he and his family returned to Nova Scotia he started his own car sales business. Now he spent time with his brothers hunting, fishing and four wheel’n, looking for the biggest mud hole to conquer. He started the clothing store, Pik’n Wear in Windsor. While in the states, at an antique car show the old store burned down. He had great resilience and just built a new one; so, determined, which each of his children have inherited. After selling his store he enjoyed trips to Florida, Venezuela, Hawaii, Cuba and across Canada and Europe with his second wife, Linda. While living in Scotts Bay he honed his skills eating lobster, boating around Cape Split and the Bay of Fundy. After knee replacement he invented a kit for his motorcycle that allowed him to enjoy the open road; he liked making several kits for his friends with mobility issues. Cecil revisited his clock making and repair hobby; one night it sounded like Big Ben from London, England was in the living room. What a relief when he sold it. He spent many hours fixing and making things in his garage helping family and friends if he could. He reconnected with his old buddy Bill Tupper; they made and sold guitars. The highlight of the day for him was when helping his friend, Billy, he’d order his favorite food a big slab of PIZZA. Cecil had a great sense of humor, that he retained, even after dementia engulfed his life. He enjoyed giving Shannex staff a scare with a long silence then a big BOO. He so enjoyed hugs and Tracy’s sassy wit. Being an animal lover, he cherished doggie visits. Cecil enjoyed the volunteer musicians like Freedom Sound, often singing along.
ASincere thanks to Dr. Targett and all the staff at Blomidon Court, Greenwich. You are Cecil’s extended family.
