Memorial Donation
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Catherine Margaret (MacDonald) Cogswell, on November 3, 2024 at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital.
Born in Barberton, Inverness County on December 12, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Annabelle (Perrin) MacDonald-Burke.
Catherine was a long-time member of St. Joseph’s Parish and CWL and was very involved in all aspects of the Church. She was also a member of the PC Association of Nova Scotia and was always up for a friendly political discussion. In her earlier years, you could find her at the main door of the Carriage House or manning the polls at the elections.
Having 10 kids of her own, she was nurturing to any child she embraced. She was a caregiver to many children in Port Hawkesbury. Her family was the most important thing in her life.
Catherine was a social butterfly – always smiling, laughing and giving advice (whether you wanted it or not!) She was a force to be reckoned with. She loved to socialize, go out to eat, and speak to everyone she met. She enjoyed a good game of cards and loved to go to bingo.
Catherine is survived by her children, Jimmy, Freddy (Bernadette), Joey, Billy, Gary, Eleanor (Dave), Bonnie (Don), Nanabelle (John) and Russell; brother Jerry (Peggy) Burke; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, James Cogswell, daughter, Paula in infancy; step-father, Fred Burke; siblings, Dan Willie MacDonald, Herman Burke and Patsy MacNeil and infant sister, Mary; nephew and godson, Freddy MacNeil; and special friend, John Green.
Visitation will be held at Green’s Funeral Home on Thursday November 7, 2024 from 2-4pm & 7-9pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated from St. Joseph’s Parish on Friday November 8, 2024 at 10am; with Rev. Joby Augustin officiating. Interment to follow in the Parish Cemetery. Family flowers only, please.
A special thank you to all the PCWs, healthcare professionals and palliative care workers at St. Martha’s Hospital. Also, a special thank you to Francis and Rachael Green at Green’s Funeral Home.
Memorial Donations may be made to the IWK, St. Joseph’s Cemetery Fund or charity of choice.
