The death occurred on February 4, 2023 at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, following a lengthy illness, of James William (Jim) Burke of Orwell Cove, formerly of Georgetown, aged 79. Survived by his loving wife, Sharron (Cunningham); his son, John, Halifax, NS and his stepson, Bruce (Brenda) Spice, Colborne, ON. Also survived by brothers, Anthony and Cecil (Doreen); sisters, Hilda Burke (Stephen) and Lauretta (Billy) Landry; sister-in-law, Linda Gowing-Burke; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents, William and Cecilia (Clarkin); brothers Stewart and Wayne; sisters, Agnas (in infancy), Virginia (Danny) McAleese and Mary Guignard. Resting at St. James Roman Catholic Church, Georgetown, for visitation on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 from 7 – 9 p.m. Funeral mass to be held at the church on Thursday, February 9, 2023 at 2 p.m. Interment at a later date in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim’s memory to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, or St. James Roman Catholic Cemetery Fund, or the Upper Room Hospitality Ministry would be appreciated.
