It is with great sadness we share that Brian has lost his fierce battle with cancer. For the last three years he lived with a brain tumor, enduring two surgeries and months of treatment in a valiant effort to stave off this disease. In the midst of it all, Brian remained the wonderful person we knew him to be – loyal, trustworthy, highly intelligent, and calm in the face of any storm. His dry sense of humour never failed to bring smiles to our faces, even in the most difficult moments. We are so grateful for the time we had with him, and our lives will be forever enriched through knowing and loving him.
Brian lived a life full of exploration and intellectual pursuit, completing a post-graduate history degree in the UK. He was a pivotal member of a medical education group affiliated with McMaster University, the same institution where his grandfather, Henry Thode was President in the 60s and early 70s. Brian was an avid sports fan, enjoyed playing chess, gardening, travelling, and especially spending time in cottage country with his beloved family.
It is a heartbreaking loss for his wife Jennifer and children Jack and Charlotte. Brian will be forever loved and dearly missed by them as well as his parents Richard and Janice Thode, his sister Laura Zonta, husband Mike and children Allison and Jacob, his brother Michael, wife Vanessa and daughter Sofia, his Aunts, Uncles & Cousins, and the Smith Family.
The Celebration of Brian’s Life will be on Saturday, August 19th from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the David Braley Health Sciences Centre, Auditorium – Room 2032, 100 Main Street West, Hamilton, Ontario.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice or the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada would be appreciated.
