Parcourez la nécrologie de Bob Beaver Monday November 18th 2024 résidant dans la province Ontario pour le détail des funérailles.
After a lengthy illness with Vascular Dementia, Bob passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at St. Andrew’s Terrace in Cambridge, Ontario. He was 88.
A lifelong resident of Preston, Bob was extremely proud of his ‘Home Town’. He retained the history of Preston, Galt and Hespeler (later Cambridge in 1973) and of many present and former residents. His father was born in Beaverdale in 1888 after the family emigrated from the Alsace-Lorraine area in Europe. His mother emigrated to Preston from Lisburn in Northern Ireland in the 1920’s.
Married for 63 wonderful years, Bob was the devoted husband of Carol (Hirtz, of Richmond Hill) who he met in 1959 while she attended Registered Nurse’s Training at South Waterloo Memorial Hospital (SWMH) in Galt, now Cambridge Memorial Hospital. Loving father of Bob and his wife Ingrid (Stuivenberg) of Bognor, Ontario and their twin daughters Dr. Christina Koshak and her husband Mark and their children Markus, Sophia and Charlotte of Pueblo, Colorado and Sarah Cowley and her husband Scott and their children Tristan, Benjamin, Ella and Cameron of Owen Sound, Ontario. Loving father of Laurie Peters and her husband Kelly of Kitchener and their children Joshua, Tera and Anna.
Bob is survived by his sisters Joyce Bennett (Trevor), Eileen Bartels (Bill), and Margaret MacDonald (the late Orland).
One of eight children, Bob is predeceased by both parents, Maurice and Margaret (Rainey), sister Ethel Dawson (the late Scotty), infant sister Dorothy, sister Gladys Sime (the late Don), and both brothers Maurice (survived by Pauline of Guelph) and Ab (the late Paula).
At age 9, Bob worked as a pinsetter at the Presto Lanes on King St. He loved bowling and played with his wife on a league for many years during their early marriage when they lived on Waterloo Street South.
Bob attended Preston’s public and high school. He was the Valedictorian of his graduating class, an honour later shared by his son. During his high school years, he lived at the Preston Fire Hall where he was a volunteer firefighter, answering the phone and opening and closing the doors for the trucks. Since the fire hall had a television, Bob often invited his Mom and sisters to watch the Ed Sullivan Show on a Sunday night. He later entertained his children through the years with stories about the fire hall days.
Bob’s 40 year full time employment was as a dedicated Sales Representative, first with Rust Craft Greeting Card Company and then with G. T. French Paper Ltd. in Hamilton. After retiring from full time work, Bob worked part time making deliveries for Shoppers Drug Mart on Hespeler Road in Cambridge.
Always busy, he enjoyed working with his hands especially in the garden, cutting grass, helping his family with home projects, and working around the family cottages, first on Georgian Bay near Wasaga Beach and later in Southampton. He was always game for a round of euchre, enjoyed watching Wide World of Sports on tv, Seinfeld and The Price is Right, the Dirty Harry series, the movies Vacation, and Trains, Planes and Automobiles, Tim Hortons, telling a joke, stage plays in Toronto, season tickets to the Centre in the Square Pops series, taking a road trip, and riding in his 1928 Model A Ford Roadster which he bought as a teen. Bob made many home movies to keep our memories alive.
Travelling with family and friends brought great joy, diligently planning road trips to Myrtle Beach, Florida and Newfoundland with the help of CAA’s triptiks.
Laughter, patience, open arms, small kindnesses and commitment to family were the hallmarks of Bob. He was our strength and our joy. He made us feel special, we felt his love, and he was easy to love.
Visitation will be held Sunday, December 29, 2024 at 1 pm, followed by a Remembrance service and Luncheon at Lounsbury Funeral Home, 1766 Franklin Blvd., Cambridge (Hespeler) at 2 pm.
Interment at Wanner Mennonite Cemetery in Beaverdale will take place in the Spring.
Many thanks to the staff and volunteers at St. Andrew’s Terrace, especially the staff of Glen Oaks for their special care and friendship.
Donations to the Alzheimer Society would be gratefully appreciated.
Cremation has taken place.
