Obituary
Passed away peacefully at Grey Bruce Health Services on Friday August 4th, 2023. Born on November 20, 1940, William Harvey Proud, “The Mushroom Guy”, was in his 74th year.
Born in Owen Sound , Bill was the loved son of Mel and Muriel Proud (both deceased).
Raised in the Tara community, Bill loved to fish in the Sauble River that flowed through our farms. Interests in his teens, such as searching for puffballs, his love of music and passion for exploring new foods, expanded in his adult life.
Later, from his twenties on, Bill’s commitment to social justice grew. His commitment to championing the rights of Indigenous people and women remained with him even as he struggled with Parkinsons.
Bill was predeceased by his beloved partner, Donna Knott, in 2018.
Fondly remembered by sisters, Joan (Jim) Burlington and Holly Cameron, his nieces and nephews, his cousins, one brother-in-law, six sister-in-laws and many friends.
A memorial service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held at Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, 250 14th St. W., Owen Sound, 519-376-7492, on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Hillcrest Cemetery, Tara, following the reception.
