Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of William «BIll» Wayne Baker, 79, of Greenville Station, NS on May 18, 2023 at High-Crest Care Facility in Springhill, NS. Bill was a son of Ralph and Amy (Lund) Baker. His love for family, animals, and work ethic were instilled in him from an early age being born and raised on the family farm in Shinimicas, NS with four brothers and five sisters. He held many jobs over the years, working long hours between his day job and then at the barn with the horses which was his passion – caring for, training and racing many horses over the years. Saturday’s at Cumberland Stables was not only a busy day of training with his brother-in-law, Wes, but a social event with many friends and family stopping by. He was an active member of the Wentworth Volunteer Fire Department for over 35 years and a long-time volunteer with the Wentworth Recreation Centre. He was a county constable, county councillor, on the Board of Directors with Community Credit Union, and an active member of the PC Party. He was also a long time member of the Cumberland Singers. As busy as he was, he was always the first to lend a helping hand. Outside of volunteering he had many interests such as bowling, hunting and fishing, golf, snowmobiling, playing 45’s, and most of all spending time with family and friends. He was the life of the party; if he wasn’t bartending, he was dancing and making sure the music was loud and never stopped. He earned the nickname «Janitor» because he was always the last one to leave. He is survived by his children, Ashley (Carmen), Sharon (Evan), Sandra (Gary), Donna, Jimmy, and Billy; grandchildren, Darla (Jason), Ken (Jenny), Joel (Mandy), Devin (Carla), Mitchell, and Max; great-grandchildren, Holly, Connor, Parker, Damian, Katherine, and Averie; siblings, Bud (Dale), Bob (Raylene), Doug (June), Helen (Gerald), Judy (Dwayne), Theresa, George (Ann), Gloria (Doug). Predeceased by his parents, and sister, Beverly, and the love of his life, Jean Mooring. He felt truly blessed to be part of the Patriquin family, and cherished the close relationships he had with them. The family would like to thank the staff at High-Crest Springhill for the care and compassion shown to BIll as well as VON while he was still at home. Arrangements have been entrusted to MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Sunday, May 21st from 2-5 p.m. at MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home& Crematorium. Everyone is invited to a celebration of life at the Wentworth Recreation Centre on Monday, May 22nd from 2-5 p.m., beginning with a service of remembrance at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice.
