Obituary
Delamarre, Beverlee, affectionately known as Bev and a self-proclaimed Countess, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, September 25, 2024, surrounded by the caring staff of Sunset Community. She was born on June 19, 1952, in Windsor, Nova Scotia, to Tom and Marguerite McManus, both of whom predeceased her. She is survived by her sister, Valerie Clark, and nephew Bradford Clark.
Bev’s early years were spent at Edgehill Private School for Girls, where she developed a love for reading and writing. In 1972, she married George Delamarre, and together they embarked on a journey that took them from Nova Scotia to Austria. Sailing from Halifax on a 17-day cruise, they eventually settled in Graz, where George worked at Graz University. Bev, ever eager to expand her horizons, quickly learned German and often attended university lectures. For 17 years, they immersed themselves in Austrian culture, entertaining friends and hosting lively gatherings. Bev was particularly enamored with Baroque architecture, describing it as romantic and beautiful.
After George’s passing, Bev returned to Windsor, where she continued to pursue her passions for travel, food, and the arts. She visited Paris and Venice frequently, relishing the opportunity to shop, dine, and experience the beauty of these cities. Venice held a special place in her heart, while New York City dazzled her with Broadway shows like Les Misérables. Bev’s favorite poem, Eviradnus, an Austrian work about an adventurer’s journey, reflected her own love of travel and discovery.
In January 2002, Bev became a cherished resident of Sunset Community. Here, she was known for her sharp wit, refined tastes, and kindness. She delighted in good food, wine, and coffee, and loved to socialize over music and theater. Bev was an adventurous spirit, never missing an opportunity for a local outing—one of her favorites being clam and chips at nearby restaurants.
Bev’s final wish was to enjoy a night out at a fancy bar, a wish that was fulfilled the evening before her passing. Two dedicated staff members, Chris Nix and Heather Leblanc, accompanied her to the Nook and Cranny in Truro, where she savored a glass of Chardonnay in her final hours.
Bev will be remembered for her worldly knowledge, generous heart, and zest for life. She leaves behind a legacy of joy, elegance, and adventure.
