Peacefully at the Kingston Health Sciences Centre surrounded by the love of family on Friday January 19, 2024 one month before her 98th birthday. Betty (née Vandervoort), beloved wife of the late James Droogh. Much loved mother of James (Trudy), Connie Sparling (George), Anneke Thompson (Ron), Arnold (Lynn) and Trudy deRuiter (Case). Cherished grandmother of 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Elizabeth Mathilda Maria van der Voort was born February 22, 1926 in Poeldyk Netherlands. In 1951 Elizabeth met Adrianus (Jim) Droogh (from Zoetermeer NL ) they married February 25, 1952 and immigrated to Wolfe Island. After a few years they bought a farm and moved their young family to Joyceville Ontario. Not knowing the language and building a farm in Canada was not easy Elizabeth would say but it was a good life. In 1974, after raising a family of 5 children Elizabeth studied nursing taught by Mrs Joyce Gibson RN and original owner of Carveth Care nursing home. Once retired quilting filled her days, she enjoyed her friends at the quilt club and made many beautiful appliqué quilts. After the passing of her husband James, Elizabeth moved to Carveth Care Centre Retirement Lodge in 2016. Elizabeth was the last of her family of eight and often reflected gratefully her long life and clear mind. The family would like to thank Phyllis Lorbetskie and all the staff for the great care and wonderful memories at CCC Lodge, Elizabeth loved her new home. Heartful thanks Pamela Branscombe and the staff at Davies 3 for the amazing compassionate and loving care; Dr. Archer and the KGH Cardiology team and Dr. Briggs for medical care and always taking the time to chat.
The family will receive friends on Thursday February 22 at St. Barnaby’s Church 5307 County Rd 15, Seeley’s Bay, from 12:00 – 1:00 pm with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 1:00 pm. Rite of Committal St. Barnaby’s cemetery. As expressions of sympathy donations made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation www.heartandstroke.ca/ would be appreciated by the family.
