BELFORD, Betty (nee Hedden) – The family of Betty Belford announces her passing at Henley Place, London on Saturday December 31, 2022, in her 97th year. She is now reunited with her best friend and husband of 64 years, Franklin ‘Pete’ Belford and eldest son Terrence ‘Terry’ William Belford. Betty is survived by a daughter Susan (Jim) Anderson of London, sons Timothy (Jane Loiselle) Belford of Sherbrooke, QC and Shane (Annemarie Barber) Belford of Burlington. Betty leaves behind a clan of 8 grandchildren; Reena, Patrick (Tara), Peter (Catherine), Jacob (Rachel), Aynsley (Mike), Gavin (Amanda), Lindsay, Fraser (Heather) and 10 great-grandchildren; Harmon, James, Ava, Franklin, Eloise, Jack, Pete, Beau, Bruce, TJ. Numerous nephews and nieces remember ‘Aunt Betty’ fondly. Predeceased by her parents, William and Eva (Wilcox) Hedden, brother George (Jean) Hedden and sister Marie (Jack) Finlay. Also predeceased by her in-laws Lt. Franklin and Doris (Chamberlain) Belford, brother-in-law Terrence (Mary) Belford, sisters-in-law Joan (William ‘Bill’) Caton and Doris ‘Dorie’ (Alan ‘Al’) Wilson. Betty’s sense of humour and wit kept people in stitches. She had a story for every occasion and lived life to the fullest. In retirement, Betty and Pete were avid travelers including many jaunts to Las Vegas. Over the years, Betty helped support her growing family by taking seasonal jobs at the post office, canning factories and for many years, a lunch-time shift at the Stamford Centre McDonalds. Pete and Betty both were excellent bowlers, with Betty excelling in seniors’ leagues, winning awards well into her eighties. She was also known as a slo-pitch player, taking up the sport in her fifties and helping her Wedgewood Dingbats to a city championship. In her later years, she was essential in organizing friendly weekly card games with neighbours and long time friends. Betty was very proud of her clan’s achievements, both scholastic, sporting and career, keeping her ‘Brag Book’ featuring newspaper articles, photos and awards. Cremation has taken place and a private family memorial to be held in the near future. Arrangements entrusted to the PATTERSON FUNERAL HOME, 6062 Main St. Niagara Falls.
