Born in Birch Hills to Petra Marie and Arthur Botham, Betty Anne was the youngest of four children, she was predeceased by her brothers Chester, Harvey and Grant. Betty Anne’s mother Petra was a pioneering woman who was born in Cottonwood, Minnesota and moved to Birch Hills, Saskatchewan with her mother to start a homestead. While work continued on the farm, Petra met her husband Art who operated a hardware store in downtown Birch Hills for many years. Growing up Betty Anne attended early school in Birch Hills and moved to Saskatoon to attend university. After university, Betty Anne worked for a few years in the UofS administration building, met her husband Bert during this time and they married in 1957. They were blessed with two boys, Timothy and Craig (Patricia).
Betty Anne passed away with dignity and grace on the one-year anniversary of her beloved husband Bert’s passing. There is something very special in this that we are awestruck by. Bert must have been reaching out to her and the Lord clearly has a plan for all of us. It confirms to us that Betty Anne and Bert are truly angels who blessed all of us who knew them and had the privilege of sharing time with them.
Music was a common theme throughout Betty Anne’s life, singing in the church choir at Grace Westminster for many decades from the 1950’s until the early 70’s when a short-term relocation took the family to Oakville, Ontario. There she enjoyed her time with a choral society with many memorable performances. She was a soprano and if you had the pleasure of hearing her sing near you, her voice was so beautiful it would give you the chills.
Betty Anne’s unwavering priority was her loving home and sharing time with family and friends. Lifelong friendships were developed through the many local service clubs and community organizations she and Bert participated with. Enjoying good times, travels, laughs and fellowship with friends has always been important to Betty Anne and Bert. Many happy years were spent at Emma Lake and during retirement Betty Anne and Bert enjoyed great times with friends in Sun Lakes, Arizona and Victoria, BC. She looked forward to special times of fellowship and laughs with her bridge club friends who she would meet with regularly for a number of decades, most recently getting together only a few weeks ago.
Throughout her life, Betty Anne was an avid sports fan. Playing hockey in Birch Hills when she was younger, a solid fan for the Riders, Hilltops, Raptors, Maple Leafs, Curling, PGA golf and cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs. She would watch the TV listings to get her day’s schedule lined up.
Betty Anne had a brilliant mind, often helping her husband or boys with sage advice, remembering an event or person others were struggling to remember, or that tip to help someone with a puzzle.
What a smile, what a beautiful woman.
Betty Anne’s family, friends and community will be forever grateful for her lifelong contributions. She was a truly remarkable woman, loving wife and mother and a great friend to so many. Rest in peace Betty Anne – your spirit and love will be in our hearts forever. We know you and Bert are making new friends in heaven.
The family greatly appreciates the compassionate care provided to Betty Anne by her physicians and the staff at Royal University Hospital and Saskatoon City Hospital. In memoriam, for those wishing, contributions to Royal University Hospital Foundation would be appreciated. A Celebration of Betty Anne’s life will be held early in the new year.
A Memorial Service will be conducted by Rev. Daryl Woods at Saskatoon Funeral Home (4th Ave. and 25th St.) on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. LIvestream Link Available at the top of this obituary.
