With deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing our
beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather, Bernard (Berny) Lang Forrest
on November 16, 2024. Berny was born in Fredericton, NB on June 28,
1948 to the late George and Constance (Clarke) Forrest.
Berny is survived by his loving wife of 50 years (Married
October 12, 1974) Fern (nee Mazerall), dearly loved sons, Ryan of
Beaver Dam, and Craig of Fredericton; cherished granddaughter Savannah
Baird (Zach Jordan) of Rusagonis. Brothers and sister; Maurice
(Lillian) Wright of Hamilton, ON, Barbara Savage, Mark (Dawn), Andrew
(Sharon), several nieces and nephews and cousins. Also survived by
Aunt Christine (Brian) Channell, and Uncle Cliff Clarke in England.
Devoted and loving family addition, Ryan McLeod. His five
brothers-in-law; Harvey (Cathy), Gordon (Donna), Terry, Richard and
Travis. He was predeceased by his parents, grandparents, his in-laws
Maurice and Mavis Mazerall, who thought of Berny as a son, two nephews
Darren Gallagher and Arthur Wright.
As a young man he ventured to Toronto for a few years;
realizing Fredericton was home, he returned and began his career path
to become a very talented bricklayer by working alongside his Dad.
During his lifetime, he worked for Price’s Masonry, Maritime
Bricklayers and Goodine Masonry. In 1975, Berny, along with his Dad,
and brothers, Mark and Andy, formed Forrest Masonry Ltd. They had many
successful and rewarding years in the business, resulting in an
impeccable reputation. Berny was very creative and was meticulous
about his workmanship, which was portrayed at work and in and around
his home. His final years of employment were at Base Gagetown with
DND, retiring in 2015.
Berny had a passion and held a wealth of knowledge for Harley
Davidson motorcycles. He and Fern enjoyed many trips and rallies
together resulting in cherished memories and lifelong friends.
Tinkering on his bike with Ryan in their garage and passing on his
knowledge was a favourite past time. He was a member of the
Fredericton Motorcycle Touring Club, and The River Valley
Riders.
International travel became another passion of his, enjoying
trips around our province with Fern and Craig in their RV and
travelling to favourite destinations, Puerto Vallarta, and Sayulita,
Mexico. He often said that if he had discovered these places when he
was young, he would never have left.
We would like to thank Dr. Tim Snell for his care and words
of comfort, Oromocto Extra Mural and Fredericton Hospice for the
exceptional care as a team.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Bishops Funeral Home with
Visitation on Friday, November 22 from 1:00-3:00 with Funeral to
follow at 3:00, Reception at the Fredericton City Club immediately
following the service, 830 Hanwell Road, Fredericton.
