Bernard was born at Roseway Hospital and was transferred from there to the IWK. He was born with Spina Bifida and was in a wheelchair for most of his life. This did not slow him down. Bernard was in the Special Olympics where he played different sports. He enjoyed traveling with his friends to different events. Bernard won many medals which he was very proud of. He worked at the Mayflower in Barrington Passage for many years. Bernard loved working there and was disappointed if there was a day he couldn’t go. The last years of Bernard’s life was spent at the Meadows in Yarmouth. Where he participated in many of the activities there. He enjoyed playing bingo and pool, painting, working with yarn. Whatever was happening he wanted to be involved. Bernard worked on a committee and was about to open his own little store at the Meadows called “Bernie’s Corner». He also arranged fundraisers while there for schools to help others. The family would like to thank the Meadows staff for the wonderful care he received while there. The family would also like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital for the great care he received. Bernard loved the color purple, the family are asking if you can wear purple, it can be a scarf anything to honor his memory. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 14, 2024 from the H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Barrington. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the IWK or the Spina Bifida Foundation.
