It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Baxter Wareham, beloved husband, father, poppy, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend. Leaving to mourn with loving memories his wife of 31 years, Muriel (nee Boutcher) daughter Susan, son Danny (Catherine), and his precious grandchildren Sarah, Morgan and Gillian; brother’s Alfred (Elizabeth), Wilfred (Dr. Mary Jane – deceased), sisters in law Rowena, Sheila (Hiram) and Iris (Jim). Baxter has many nieces and nephews whom he loved deeply as well as many special cousins. Baxter was predeceased by his parents Leeland and Elsie (nee Rodway) Wareham, parents in law Rex and Lily (nee Barrett) Boutcher, brothers Percy (Alice), Roy, sisters Thora Hann (Jack) Hilda Pafford (Rev. Basil), brother-in-law Ross Boutcher.
Baxter was a man of many talents. He traveled the world sharing his gift of music and recitation. Baxter spent much of his working life as a teacher, he loved to teach. He was proud of his students and helped each of them discover their own unique gifts. During his years as Vice Principal of St. Michaels Integrated school in Arnold’s Cove, Baxter was a beloved teacher who changed the future trajectory of many of those he taught. Decades after retiring from the teaching profession, it wasn’t strange to hear former students say, “Mr. Wareham taught me more than academics, he taught me what it means to be a kind, dignified, and fair person.” Following his retirement from teaching, Baxter became Skipper with the Atlantic Pilotage Authority.
Although these are incredible achievements, nothing made Baxter’s eyes glisten with pride quite like his adored children Susan and Danny and later, their beautiful children Sarah, Morgan and Gillian. Baxter lived a life that kept him humble, kind and grounded in what was most important to him, Faith, Family, and Friends. It has often been said that people remember kindness and humility, it is because of this we know that Baxter will never be forgotten.
Our family would like to extend deep gratitude to the staff of G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital for their professionalism and the genuine care and concern given to Baxter as well as our family. Also special thanks to Doctor Geoffrey Fowlow, his long-time family physician, for his years of dedication. Thank you to the staff at Fewer’s Funeral Home for their professionalism and care as well as to all who have helped in any way to make this difficult time a little easier to bear. To all those who called, left facebook messages, sent food, or visited. Your kindness is very much appreciated.
