Basil Malcolm Tattrie, age 89, passed peacefully March 25, 2024 surrounded by love, in Willow Lodge, in his hometown of Tatamagouche, NS. Born July 8, 1934, to Ellsworth and Myrtle Tattrie, he grew up with a curious mind in a house of love. A home where love multiplied, and many friends and family would gather. A place where laughter, love, and life lessons were shared. A home where hospitality was just as normal as breathing, and enough was made more than enough with the special ingredient of love added to every aspect of life. Basil took this love and shared it everywhere he went. He humbly served people wherever they were at, and with whatever he had. He knew that «part» he saved would be exactly the thing that someone would need. He knew the meaning of sacrifice, and lived his life with eternal purpose, knowing that life on earth is but a moment and heaven is forever. Many folks were blessed by his kindness and wisdom when he would share a message of hope and love, either from a pulpit or from his well drilling rig. He knew that a job well done working with his hands was just as valuable as sharing from his heart.
His friends and family, near and far, will miss his compassion, kindness, and his humor. The little acts of kindness received with open hearts, and those “one liners” that continue to make us stop and laugh, even now, as we hold these memories close to our hearts and remember him as we tell his stories, his jokes, and his message of hope and love.
We will celebrate his life together at The Stable, 244 Jim Sutherland Rd, Tatamagouche, on Friday, April 12 at 2pm followed by a time of reflection at the family cemetery (Tattrie’s Oak Rest Cemetery), just up the road. Light refreshments and warm drinks will follow at the Stable afterwards. We thank you for honouring Basil’s memory with your generous gifts.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to the Willow Lodge Recreation Fund, 100 Blair Ave., Tatamagouche, NS B0K 1V0, where he enjoyed his last days.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Coulter’s Funeral Home, Tatamagouche.
