BARRY EDWARD DENESIUK
Peacefully at home, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Barry Edward Denesiuk, on June 20, 2024 in Winnipeg Manitoba. Barry was 64 years young. Surviving Barry are his loving wife Melinda, mother Johanna, sisters Lorraine and Corinne, and brother Robert. Also surviving are his step-father Gilles, bother-in-law Gord, brother-in-law Aaron, niece Stephanie, nephew Grant, step-sons, Myles, Mitch, and Kyle, as well as Mitch’s wife Michelle, Kyle’s wife Kristy, grand-daughter Olivia, step-mother Joyce, and faithful companion Annie. There are other numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends of Barrys that he held dear to his heart. Predeceasing Barry is his father Edward.
Barry grew up in Winnipeg. He graduated from Sisler High School and went on to University of Manitoba where he received his Masters in Engineering. But while putting himself through school, he started a part-time job as a blackjack dealer. As much as his skills in geology would have led him to a fulfilling career, it was the Casino industry where he found he could live out a career that challenged him and also gave him a sense of family while doing what he loved.
Barry lived a full and vibrant life. He was a wild adventurer that included sky-diving, running marathons, climbing mountains, kayak adventures only to name a few. He felt most alive while challenging himself to a new adventure. He recently became a pilot, which he would say would be one of his proudest accomplishments. As years went on, he played more golf and tried his hand at pickle ball which he was looking forward to in his retirement. He had an intense competitive nature that served him well, and also pushed his friends to their limits while playing boardgames!
Barry played a variety of sports throughout his life. In more recent years, he mostly enjoyed playing couch hockey with the Winnipeg Jets! The house came alive on game night, even dog had her Jets gear on!
If you came to Barry’s home you would notice right away the meticulous grooming he put into the grounds of his yard. He would spend hours planting and maintaining his pristine picturesque backdrop along the river.
Barry and Melinda recently retired and were enjoying the “snowbird” life in Mexico. He looked forward to living “the good life” with his family who also embraced the tropical lifestyle. It was a fit for his adventurous way of life.
Everyone that knew Barry would agree he was a caring, compassionate, honorable, respectful, fun-loving, and methodical man. He will be missed immensely. His quiet yet strong presence will leave a hole that can not be filled. We all are better people for knowing him and having him as part of our lives.
Barry’s Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 30th, from 1:00 – 4:00 pm at The Gates on Roblin, 6945 Roblin Blvd in Headingley, Manitoba. Donations in his name can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
