Barry Edward Beatty, 84, passed away peacefully at Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital on Monday, January 2, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Barry or Bar was born in Owen Sound to Gerald “Jim” and Marguerite “Peg” Beatty (née Lister) and was the eldest of two children. Barry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Among his many accomplishments in life, Barry was especially proud of the 649 goals he scored playing hockey – 350 with Old Timers, 250 in road hockey, and 49 on his own net. He will be missed by his hockey friends at the Shallow Lake and Wiarton arenas, as well as the crew at the Sauble Golf and Country Club. Barry is survived by his loving wife Sharon Beatty (née Morrison) of Richmond Hill, Ontario; his three daughters and their spouses, Catherine (Andrew) Luchak of Edmonton, Alberta, Kelly (Bailey) Abramovitz of Richmond Hill, Ontario and Kimberly (Rob) Suchy of Bradford, Ontario; his eight loving grandchildren, Caitlyn, William, Nichole, Gabrielle, Simon, Griffin, Matthew and Jenna; his sister Bernadette Walsh (her late husband Rod) and their daughters Romi and Theresa (Eva) of Toronto, Ontario; his many nieces, nephews and cousins and countless others who were touched by his friendship, kindness and sense of humor. Special thanks to all of the staff in the Intensive Care Unit of the Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital for their compassionate care and support.
Visitation will be held at the Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, 250 – 14th Street West, Owen Sound (519) 376-7492 on Friday, January 6, 2023 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church, 554 – 15th Street East, Owen Sound on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 11:00 am with Father Francis Hubilla officiating. Immediately following the service, a reception will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #6, 1450 – 2nd Avenue West, Owen Sound. Everyone is invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Hydrocephalus Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society. Condolences can be sent to Barry’s family by visiting his memorial at www.woodfuneralhome.ca.
