Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Barbara Ann Noble Holding on Wednesday, March 20th, 2024, days before her 93rd birthday.
She passed away peacefully at Bayshore TCU Cedarbrook Lodge surrounded by love.
Beloved daughter of Mary and Stan Noble, Barbara was born in Toronto at St. Michael’s hospital on April 1st, 1931. She attended St. Monica Elementary School and then went on to graduate from St. Joseph College School in 1950. She married our dear father, the late Bill Holding, in 1956 and they remained married for 23 years. A true creative spirit, Barbara studied Landscape Architecture at Seneca College and Interior Design at Ryerson. Raising five children took much of her time, but as we grew older she began to develop a career in the world of art, eventually opening her own Dunvegan Art Gallery. She was a talented painter herself, an avid tennis player, an eternal optimist, and a risk taker with an adventurous spirit. She was always civic minded and served on various political campaigns of local Thornhill politicians and in later years worked as a Returning Officer for election polling stations. She was an enthusiastic member of the Thornhill Historical Society and played a large role in organizing the inaugural Thornhill Village Festival.
A devout Catholic and active parishioner at Holy Rosary Church, she was a faithful Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Interfaith Committee and Parish council, active in the RCIA program for new Catholics, and always up to plan many a good party for her fellow parishioners.
Beloved younger sister to her late sisters Mary Ellen (Noble), Lois (Byrne), and Margaret (Bertrand), Barbara will be deeply missed by her five children Bill (Barbara), David (Faith), Darcy, Andrew and Sarah (Norman); her seven cherished grandchildren Laura (Matthew), Emily, William, Diana, Ryan, Owen and Clare; her nieces and nephews Lizanne (late Martin), Patrick, Caroline (Nestor), Martha and Brian; and great nieces and nephew Amalia, Nicholas and Sakura.
The family extends our heartfelt appreciation and thanks to the staff and caregivers at Bayshore TCU at Cedarbrook Lodge for their dedicated care and support of our mother this past year. We are especially thankful for their company, caring and support the day she passed. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name are welcomed to the Alzheimer’s Music Project, a wonderful, free initiative, which provided her the joy, peace and comfort of all her favourite music.
A celebration of Barbara’s life will take place at Holy Cross Funeral Home, 211 Langstaff Rd. East in Thornhill, on Saturday, April 6th, 2024: Visitation 11:00 am to 1pm; Funeral Mass at 1:30 pm; reception to follow. Private burial to take place at a later date. Cremation has taken place. You are invited to share your loving memories and condolences below on the wall of this website.
