MacDonald known as «Mom» to her family and «Barb»
by her friends passed away at the age of 94.
Barbara was born on April 21, 1929 to
Orian and Ralph Allcock in Wayne, Michigan USA. The youngest
of six children, Barb’s brothers Ralph, John, Allan, Sonny,
and only sister Bernice ensured Barb was well looked after. In the
early 1930’s Barb’s parents moved their family to
Ontario Canada for work, and a young Barb began her life as a
Canadian.
Attending high school in the Etobicoke
area, Barb would meet her future husband of over fifty years Bernard
MacDonald. After a time of courtship, Barb accepted
Bernard’s proposal and together they were blessed with seven
children. Establishing roots in Mississauga, Ontario, Barb worked in a
lighting factory while simultaneously raising their children. She
enjoyed knitting and was known for making jackets, and baby clothes of
which many of her grandchildren still have. Barb was always
known to speak her mind, work hard, enjoy life, and had a heart of
gold to any who knew her.
After losing her beloved husband in
December of 2000, Barb was blessed once more when her life companion
Garnet Clayton known to many as «Jimmy» made his pledge of
love for her in 2001. Barb shared nineteen wonderful years with Jimmy
surrounded by family and friends before his passing in
2020.
After suffering a spinal injury in
2006 eventually leaving Barb bed bound, she embarked on a cross
country move from Ontario with Alan, Martha, and Tyler to West
Pubnico, Nova Scotia in February 2023. There she enjoyed a welcoming
community, fresh ocean breezes on the patio, watching the birds that
visit daily along with talks around the dining room table . Alan often
told her «You held my hand bringing me into this world, I will
hold yours as you leave» , was a promise fulfilled on the eve of
her passing.
Barbara is preceded in death by her
Father Ralph, Mother Orian, Brother Ralph, Brother John, Brother
Allan, Brother Sonny, Sister Bernice, Husband Bernard, Son Bernie,
Daughter Janet, Life Companion Jimmy.
She is survived by her children Dan
and Brenda MacDonald with their children Tammy and Jody and their
families. Donna and John Schiller with their children Allan and
Shannon and their families. Ken and Monique with their children
Kennith and Cary and their families. Nikki MacDonald and her family,
Brenda MacDonald with her children Wade, Jesse, and Orian and their
families. Alan and Martha MacDonald with their son
Tyler.
To fulfill Barb’s final
wishes, her ashes will be brought home to be with her beloved husband
until such a time when they can be spread together. Barbara wished for
no formal ceremony to be held, however she did request that those who
knew, and loved her have a drink of their choice in her memory
remembering their favorite moments with her, knowing that she lived a
full life on her terms.
