Barbara McNabb Obituary
Barbara Anne McNabb (née Price), January 7, 1934 – November 12, 2023
Barbara Anne McNabb (née Price) born in Fort Macleod, Alberta was the eldest daughter of Cecil Lawrence Price, a pharmacist and businessman, and Olive Opal Price (née Hall), a homemaker.
Mom lived a full life for 89 years, but eventually ran out of energy and passed away peacefully with Cindy, Kevin and Jean nearby.
She leaves behind her loving children: Gregg McNabb (Shizuoka, Japan), Cindy Sandberg (Coaldale, AB) and Kevin McNabb (Jean) (Red Deer, AB); grandchildren Adrienne Dutka (Winnipeg, MB), Eric Czyzycki (Winnipeg, MB), Kenji McNabb (Vancouver, BC) and great grandson Austin Dutka (Winnipeg, MB). She will be missed by beloved nephews and nieces Michael Fairbairn, Sue Hoffman (née Fairbairn) and Marcea Hennecke (née Fairbairn); Kent Beningfield and Scott Beningfield; Christine Wosilius (née McNabb) and Heather Follis (née McNabb).
As a child and young adult, Mom lived in Fort Macleod, AB. She was of delicate health, but still enjoyed skating, going to the river, having picnics, seeing movies at the Empress Theatre, participating in Job’s Daughters and being with her dear sister, Lynnie (Marilyn Cecile Fairbairn of Chatham, ON, d. March 29, 2023), who she loved deeply. Later Mom became an RN and worked in Alberta.
After their blind date, she married the love of her life, Robert Russell McNabb of Lethbridge (d. March 24, 2023) and for 66 years they lived a full life together with many twists and turns in Calgary, Edmonton and Winnipeg before retiring to Chapala-Ajijic, MX and finally settling in Coaldale, AB.
In her early days as an RN she worked at a clinic in Edmonton and later worked at the Veterans Hospital, mostly caring for terminal stage patients while also taking care of her family. After leaving nursing she went back to school to become a medical secretary. Much later in life, for a short time, she resumed her RN duties when she and Dad joined a missionary group in Rwanda.
Mom was a good casual painter, but always maintained she wasn’t, so didn’t paint as often as others would have liked. She enjoyed traveling near and far and went to Hawaii, the 1967 Montreal Expo, vacationed throughout the Canadian Rockies, Barbados, Mexico, and stayed with family in NYC, and Japan. Beginning retirement, she enjoyed living as a “nomad,” camping with Bob throughout the US for a year and lived in Mexico for over fifteen years before going to Kenya, Mozambique and Rwanda.
Throughout her life she loved flowers, plants, and chocolate.
Mom was a gracious, unassuming, very empathetic, and, at times, solitary soul.
No one ever had an unkind word to say about her. She will be deeply missed.
