Obituary
It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Avalon Smith of Dildo, Trinity Bay, age 74, on June 10, 2024.
Avalon was predeceased by his parents, Rita and Ernest Smith, brother Delberth, sister-in-law Jennie Smith and best friend Lloyd Ash.
Left with fond and loving memories are his daughter Karen, son-in-law Jhony and Karen’s mother Rosilan, brother Elwood, special niece Nicole (Geoff), nephews Jason and Brian,special uncle Melvin (Jessie), Uncle Everett (Geraldine), brothers-in-law Allister, Bern(Irene), other nieces, nephews, cousins; friends Bud Ford (Linda), Jack Okeefe and other friends and colleagues.
Avalon was a dedicated teacher and Principal who influenced the lives of many students whom he taught in Hodge’s Cove, Quebec, Manitoba, Wabush and Nunavut. He was often heard saying to his students: “We have an enemy to defeat this year and that enemy is Math 2200.”
Avalon enjoyed fishing, (he was often on the water at 4 in the morning), travelling and spending winters in Florida. He loved having people around and gave freely to those in need. He will be missed by family and friends.
Cremation has taken place. Inurnment at a later date.
