Obituary
NICKERSON, Austin Leigh – 80, of Stoney Island, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 16, 2023. Austin spent 60 years as a fisherman, after retiring he became a fishers for men and loved His Lord dearly. He enjoyed deer hunting with the boys, painting pictures and weekly marble games with family. He also greatly enjoyed watching boat races. He was very passionate about the fishery industry and often stood up for what he believed in. His most memorable trips were to Punta Cana, The Rocky Mountains, Banff, Jasper, Lake Louise, Red Deer & Lloyminster (Alberta), and Anne of Green Gables Play in P.E.I. Austin is survived by wife, Sylvia; son, Todd (Lisa); daughter, Suzanne (John); grandsons, Jordan (Katie), Jared (Courtney), Jaxxon; four great-grandchildren; as well as extended family, Trail (Melissa), Sherri, Brenda; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren; special friend, Mike Armstrong; brothers, Leigh (Val), Sterling (Heidi); sisters, Louise, Sylvia, Ella, Helene, Linda, Alma (Laurie); and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Tracy and Phyllis (Ross) Nickerson, he was predeceased by brothers, Alton, Gary; infant sister, Marilyn; and first wife, Ruth Symonds. The family would like to take this time to give a special thanks to Dr. Yee and Continuing Care Team, Lea, Samantha, RN, LPN, Homecare support who helped with Austin’s care daily at home for over a year. He always told them they were his children with a smile. There will be a visitation held on Tuesday from 6-8 pm at H. M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, Barrington, where the funeral service will follow, Wednesday, September 20, at 2 pm with Cecil O’Donnell officiating. The service will be livestreamed for all those unable to attend. Interment will be in Atlantic Cemetery, Stoney Island. Memorial donations may be made to the Ocean Christian Academy (OCA), Atlantic Cemetery, or a charity of your choice.
