Ardella’s Obituary
Ardella Dawn Martin, long-resident of Peace River, AB passed away in her home on June 5, 2023, at the age of 63 years.
Ardella was born in Whitehorse, Yukon. Her father was RCMP stationed in nearby Teslin and her mother was a nurse there. As an RCMP family, they moved often. From Teslin, to Athabasca, then Lethbridge, Grande Prairie, and finally Peace River where her dad retired from the RCMP and bought Dad’s N Lad’s Clothing.
Ardella went to Junior and Senior High School in Peace River, where she excelled as an honour student in all years. Her older brother Randy brought one of his friends over for supper one day, and little did she know, she had just met her future husband, David. They reconnected years later in Edmonton where Ardella attended the U of A and David was at NAIT. Ardella graduated her Educated degree majoring in Special Education with Honors with Distinction.
She was a student teacher in Peace River in 1981, before joining David in High Prairie where he had started a second Dad’s N Lad’s Clothing location. They married in 1983 and continued working and teaching there until they moved back to Peace River in 1987. She worked at Springfield Elementary School until retirement in 2017. After retirement, she went on to study yoga in India, Bali and Thailand. She combined her passion for teaching and yoga and became a certified Yoga Instructor (traditional and aerial), Bone Fit trainer, and Breath Coach.
She is predeceased by her parents, George and Joan Ambrose.
Ardella is survived by her loving husband David Martin; their two children Brennan Martin and Caitlin Martin; and, her brother Randy Ambrose; her sister Tanis Nergaard.
There will be an intimate Celebration of Life, to be held later.
