Obituary
Tony Hanna Helou was born in Jaffa, Palestine on February 20,1931 and passed away peacefully on January 10,2024. He is survived by his son, John and his daughter, Yvette, his grandchildren Kristen ( Jeff), Michele (Will) and Cody as well as his great grandchildren Jack, Landon, Scottie and Sam. In addition, he is survived by his siblings Henry, Georgette and Eli.
Tony travelled the world, lived and studied in multiple countries, had numerous jobs in sales and management in the airline business, and called Canada his home.
He sacrificed so much. He had the courage in giving us an opportunity of a lifetime when we escaped and immigrated to Canada as a result of the civil war in Lebanon in 1975. That sacrifice wasn’t the first for his family as they had to escape from Jaffa in 1948 to Lebanon without ever being able to return home.
He will forever be remembered for how he lived his life, all the lessons he taught us and the sacrifices he made. He taught us how to be courageous, to be true to oneself and to those around you. He taught us brutal honesty, the power of forgiveness, and his unconditional love for his family.
He will be remembered for the love of his wife, our mom, Nouha who passed away in 1992 and how he cared for her. You saw his softer side when he reminisced about their early days.
For his passion for life, politics, debating and strong views. He knew his facts and one better be ready for a tough animated discussion especially if a drink is involved. He was a legend on that front! For challenging us to better understand the world and the context to world events. For his incredible memory of history, people, events and story telling; he was the best! For how proud he was of the family. For his generosity towards family and friends. For being our best friend as well as our dad and Noni. For his conviction on issues and the courage that he exhibited. He was competitive and animated whether debating or playing backgammon. For how he handled mistakes, learned from them and remained true to the core on the importance of the family bond. He was a great cook, loved his small garden and continued to drive, shop and cook until the age of 92! He will be missed but not forgotten as he is in all of us and shapes who we are!
We thank the Milton General Hospital staff and Oakville General for their compassion and having taken good care of our father.
