Obituary of Anne Wood Cameron
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Anne Cameron (Wood Turner), 77, on September 22, 2024.
She will be greatly missed by her son Iain (Andrea) and daughter Alison (Chris), granddaughters Kaya (John), Blaise, Cierra and Ellie, sisters Muriel and Irene (Dennis), nieces and nephews in Canada, Scotland and South Africa and her friend Liz.
She was predeceased by her husband Harry, mother Isabella, father Alec Turner and stepfather Jimmy Kelso, mother-in-law Etta Cameron, brothers-in-law Archie and John, sister-in-law Isobel and niece Pauline.
Anne was born February 26, 1947 in Glasgow, Scotland, and recalled playing with her younger sisters around the post-war ruins. Her family eventually moved to Sauchie and Alloa, where she met Harry. They married on September 14, 1968, and immigrated to Winnipeg, Canada in February 1972. On arrival Anne was wearing a mini-skirt and hot boots and it was so cold she cried. They welcomed son Iain in 1978 and daughter Alison in 1983.
Anne and Harry enjoyed many summers with family and friends in Fox Lake, Ontario. Anne worked as an administrative assistant for several years in the anesthesiology department in St. Boniface Hospital, followed a stint the Manitoba Nurses Union.
Anne loved to travel; most often to Scotland and South Africa to visit her mum and sisters, and also visited Spain, Jamaica, Mexico, Las Vegas and went on a European cruise, to name a few. She also loved summer weekends in Gimli with Ali and Cierra or in Traverse Bay with Iain and family as well as occasional bus trips to Shooting Star or South Beach Casino with friends.
Anne was a quiet woman of great strength; she was widowed young and was a survivor with formidable will and determination. For instance, she beat cancer, against significant odds, astonishing her doctors. Anne never saw herself as a victim; she just wanted to carry on and live and enjoy her life. And so, after she finished her treatment, she travelled again to Scotland and South Africa many more times.
Anne was fiercely proud of her four granddaughters and they will all miss their granny deeply.
Anne’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation for the compassion and care shown by the staff in the CCU at St. Boniface hospital and St. Norbert PCH.
In accordance with her wishes, a private cremation has taken place and there will be no formal service.
If desired, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba or the Winnipeg Humane Society.
