Obituary
Anne Wood (Maginniss) was born on September 5, 1944, and left this world at precisely the same time she entered it 79 years later, on September 5, 2023.
Anne was predeceased by her parents and siblings. She also mourned the loss of her mother and father–in–law and her husband’s great-aunt, whom she loved dearly. Anne was devastated when she lost her beloved husband, Michael, in 2009. It was too great of a loss to bear, which she never entirely accepted. Their love was not “till death do us part”; their love continues now that they are reunited.
Anne is deeply missed and fondly remembered by her son David (Cindy), daughter Susan (Yanne), her grandchildren Aaron and Colin Wood, and Nolan and Owen LeTarnec. Additionally, she has many nieces and nephews who cherish her memory. Her best friend Marilyn and her husband Burt, who were high school friends for over 60 years, continue to miss her greatly. Anne is also remembered by their good friend, George Stein and his late wife, Nancy. Together, they enjoyed many adventures between their homes on Baylor Cres. and Roydon Pl., vacationing in Myrtle Beach, and time spent between their Sauble Beach cottage and the Wood cottage on Isabella Lake.
Anne and her family migrated from Glasgow, Scotland, to Canada when she was a young child. She grew up in Toronto, where she met Mike, got married, and had Dave. In 1968, they moved to Georgetown, where they spent most of their lives. Anne and Mike built a family cottage, which is a cherished summer getaway for the whole family.
Throughout her life, Anne worked in various roles, mainly in the medical field. As a young woman, she worked as an RNA at Georgetown District Hospital. Later, she moved across the parking lot to what used to be the Georgetown Medical Associates office, where she worked 3 days a week for many years. Additionally, Anne worked at Sheridan College Child Care Centre as a cook, and even though it was not a nursing position, it was a job she absolutely loved and where she made many cherished friends. While working at the Child Care Centre, Anne returned part-time to Georgetown Hospital as an RNA and eventually trained to be an Operating Room Technician. She was thrilled to complete and receive high honours in the operating room technician course, an accomplishment she was immensely proud of. Before retiring, Anne also enjoyed volunteering as a Happy Hour bartender at the Bennett Centre.
In her last years, Anne’s mind was invaded by dementia, and complications from it eventually led to her death. Dave, Sue and their families would like to thank all the medical professionals at Georgetown District Hospital for caring for our mom during her last 5 weeks. Everyone we encountered was kind, respectful and gentle with mom, who became increasingly frail as the weeks passed. Their expertise, care and empathy greatly supported our family and were so appreciated.
Anne’s after-death care has been entrusted to Jones Funeral Home. As per her request, there will be no formal funeral service, but her children and their families will organize a get-together to pay tribute to her in the coming weeks. Details for the event are still being finalized.
If you wish, donations could be made to www.aspenvalley.ca in Rosseau, ON, instead of flowers. This charity is near and dear to the families’ hearts. To send expressions of sympathy, please visit www.Jonesfuneralhome.com.
