Anne Marie Morrow (née McDonald) died on May 25th, 2024, at Health Sciences North in the company of loved ones from complications of recently diagnosed lung cancer. She was born on January 25th, 1941, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, to Issac McDonald and (Wilhelmina) Louisa McDonald (née Rea). Anne grew up in Northern Ireland, where she married Walter Morrow on September 12th, 1966, and thereafter gave birth to children Peter, Helen (Ferguson), Catherine (Wiss), and Jane (deceased). The family emigrated in May 1972 to Sudbury, Canada, where Anne made her home, lasting friendships, and remained for the rest of her life. She is survived by husband Walter Morrow, her aforementioned children and their spouses/partners Rebecca Morrow, Enrique (Rick) Ho, and Robert (Rob) Wiss, as well as grandchildren Anna, Allison (Alli), and Ian Morrow; Laura (wife Justice) and Emily Ferguson (spouse Darian); and Patrick, Maxine, and Callum Wiss. Anne is also survived by much-loved nieces and nephews and their families, especially her dear sisters-in-law Denise and Vera, as well as cousins back home. She will be sadly missed for her frequent lunch dates with beloved friends Kathryn Kealy and Jeannie Milner. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, preceded in death by her father, mother, brothers Noel, Maxwell, and Kenneth, as well as sister-in-law Amy. With luck she will have already rejoined her family as well as dear departed friends Alma Shine, Ursula Gay, and Lena Mary O’Donohoe. Anne was a warm, lovely, and vivacious lady with singularly elegant style. She detested snobbery but had strict aesthetic standards. Immaculately turned out for all occasions, she permitted no paper plates or native-container condiments at her table. When entertaining, she served a beautiful and bountiful display of delicious food and heaps of fun. She faced any pain and adversity bravely, without complaint, and had the heart of a lioness. Few people can have left as many smiles in their wake, engendered more love, buoyed more downcast spirits, or created as much merriment and gaiety as she did.
A Memorial Service, and Celebration of Life will be held on July 6th, 2024, at 2pm at Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch St, Sudbury ON P3B 1M2. (Friends may gather after 1pm Saturday, July 6, 2024).
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ovarian Cancer Canada (Ovarian Cancer Experience, Research | Ovarian Cancer Canada (ovariancanada.org).
Anne will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
