Funeral Service Details For The Late Ann Catherine Briand
**A Mass will be held at the Holy Guardian Angels Parish, L’Ardoise on April 26th, 2024 at 11am, followed by a reception at the L’Ardoise Community Center.**
It is with profound sadness that the family of Ann Catherine Briand share the news of her passing on Wednesday, February 7th, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. She fought with incredible strength and resilience, surrounded by the love of her family until the very end.
Ann will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 56 years, Joseph (Buddy); children, Nancy (Michael), Bradley (Angela) and Freddy (Melinda); grandchildren, Chloe (Patrick), Keira, Mason, Kyleigh, and Alyssa; sibling, Raymond (Angela) and numerous friends and extended family.
Ann was predeceased by her parents, Mary Margaret and Charles Francis O’Brien; brothers, Fred, Cyril, and Sonny; sisters, Hilda and Jean; and infant children, Nicole and Clint.
Ann’s remarkable life was deeply rooted in and guided by the values of family, community, and faith. Her family was her greatest source of strength and happiness and her unconditional love knew no bounds. She poured her heart and soul into nurturing her family with care, compassion, and devotion. Ann found immense joy in spending time with her loved ones; whether gathering for holidays or events, going on family vacations, shopping, dining out, playing games, or having quiet moments together. During challenging times, she was always the first to extend support and guidance; a hug or a shoulder to cry on, advice or a listening ear. She excelled at being a wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Her legacy of love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
Ann was a Continuing Care Assistant (CCA), an avid volunteer and beloved member of our community. She had the ability to connect with others on a deeply personal level and very easily form strong and lasting friendships. She always greeted others with a radiant smile, and her casual nature and infectious laughter instantly made strangers feel as if they were in the company of an old friend. Ann radiated compassion and sincerity, prompting her to devote a significant portion of her life to the Home Health Care field. Conscientious and hard working, she personally ensured each of her clients had the highest level of care, always felt valued and were treated with the upmost dignity and respect.
Despite her personal health challenges, she remained steadfast in her Catholic faith and unwavering in her kindness, service, and commitment to those in need. She did not let her illness define her identity and behaviour. She touched countless lives and epitomized grace until God called her home.
Ann embraced every opportunity that life presented, whether it was the thrill of a roller coaster ride, the excitement of a new find at a flea market, or the quiet serenity of reading a book in her gazebo. She approached each experience with an open mind and a zest for living life to its fullest. Sometimes swapping her caregiver hat for a bingo dabber or a handful of quarters, she was always ready to conquer the bingo hall or slot machines with the fervor of a seasoned pro. Even after her diagnosis, she continued to love and live every moment she was given; her illness did not rob her of who she was. So while we mourn her passing, we must also celebrate the times when Ann reminded us to embrace joy in every moment and showed us that even the most selfless souls know how to have a little fun.
As we reflect on Ann’s life and grieve her passing, let us also honor her extraordinary legacy of kindness and empathy. Though Ann may no longer be with us in body, her spirit continues to inspire us to make a positive impact in the lives of others. Please join in remembrance of her remarkable legacy and mirror the compassion and selflessness that defined her life. Cremation has taken place, with no visitation, by request. A Mass will be held at the Holy Guardian Angels Parish, L’Ardoise on April 26th, 2024 at 11am, followed by a reception at the L’Ardoise Community Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in the name of Ann Briand to Dorothy’s Cat Sanctuary, River Bourgeois, NS, or the Palliative Care Team at the Strait Richmond Hospital, Cleveland, NS.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Strait Richmond Hospital for their care and compassion, and the L’Ardoise Volunteer Fire Department for their quick responses in a time of need.
