In Loving Memory of Andrew “Andy” Broersma
Andrew Broersma was born in Friesland, Netherlands on August 22, 1935, his family came to Canada in 1954 and he passed away at Extendicare Haliburton on July 11, 2024 with his family by his side.
The most important thing to him and what he was proud of were the four women/girls in his life. His loving wife and best friend Joyce for 66 years, along with his 3 daughters Anne (Marcel), Jean (Steve) and Maggie (Kevin). He enjoyed spending time with his ten grandchildren; Tracey (Darnell), Bob, Andrea, Jesse (Tanya), Greg (Jessie), Mathew (Amanda), Tony (Lindsay), Steve (Kristi), Kim (Steve) and Liam (Jessie), and with his fourteen great grandchildren; Owen, Evan, Logan, Brooke, Rylan, Tayler, Ethan, Declan, Abby, Kennedy, Cullen, Caleb, Danielle and Nicole. Survived by his siblings; Harvey (Sita), Len (Marie), Winda (Peter) and Peter (Vivian), and by his in-laws; Doug (deceased) (Joyce), Carl (deceased)(Betty), Donna (Richard), Kathy (Frank -deceased), Shirley (Irwin), Donald (deceased), and also by his many extended family members.
Andy drove truck for United Farms, Hare Transport, Steinburg’s and Cameron Packaging. Andy and Joyce purchased Kushog Korners in March 1979. They then moved to Minden in 1999. Over the years, Andy became a handy man to families on Kushog Lake and the island. He was always on the go and was always available to lend a helping hand.
The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to the staff at Extendicare Haliburton for the attentive care provided to Andy.
Keeping with Andy’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
Memorial Donations to the Haliburton Highlands Health Services Foundation (HHHSF) would be appreciated by the family and can be arranged through the Gordon A. Monk Funeral Home Ltd., P.O. Box 427, Minden, Ontario K0M 2K0.
