Amy’s Obituary
Amy Nadine McCullough, daughter of the late Wilfred and Edna (Spidle) Nash passed away in the early hours of Nov. 7, 2024, in 4-North, Yarmouth Regional Hospital. She was 71 (or as she preferred to say, 70-ish). She had had a fulfilling career as an LPN, graduating from Annapolis Regional Vocational School in it’s first class of LPNs, known then as Certified Nursing Assistants. Before she was married, she worked in Yarmouth Regional Hospital, Stanton Yellowknife Hospital and Digby General Hospital. In 1979, she married Victor McCullough who was a ministry student at Maritime Christian College in Charlottetown, PE, and she then worked at Hillsborough Hospital and the PEI Hospital, until Victor’s graduation and they moved to River John, NS, at which time, son Zachary Scott was born. Victor’s ministry moves took her to several interesting and rewarding career moves. In 1982, they moved to Tiverton, NS, where while involved in the church there and in Westport, she worked on the ambulance, and with Continuing Care, and during that time, daughter Abby Ruth was born. A move to Truro in 1993 gave her opportunities with VON, private duty nursing, small nursing homes, and several years of working at Hillcrest Manor and Cedarstone, working especially in the dementia units which she found to be a satisfying aspect of nursing. Moving to Murray Harbour, PE in 2007, she again worked with dementia long-term care at Beach Grove Home in Charlottetown from where she retired. In 2022, Victor retired from a happy ministry with Murray Harbour Church of Christ, and they moved to his old home in Danvers, Digby County. Their ministry moves gave them many new, lasting and special friendships, for whom there is great appreciation, especially as they have prayed and offered loving thoughts during Amy’s health struggle.
Amy was predeceased by her parents, brother Gregory, grandparents, Titus and Susie (Amero) Nash, J. Neil and Alma (Hatt) Spidle and mother-in-law, Helen McCullough as well as special uncles and aunts, grand-daughter, Lucila Sosa, born sleeping, as well as especially bonded cousin and friend, Judy Jordan. She is survived by husband, Victor, son Zac of Redwater, AB, daughter Abby Sosa of Danvers, sister Alisa Nash, Guinea, Anna. Co., sister in-law, Joanne Nash, Millville, Kings Co., brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Clark and Dianne McCullough, Havelock, NS, aunts Reta Nash, BC, Edna Spidle, Digby, and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by stepmother, Pauline Nash of Crosskill Court., Bridgetown, and step-siblings, Pauline’s children.
The care and treatment Amy received in her difficult struggle with Multiple Myeloma, chemo and problems from infections began in 2019 and after struggling to get a diagnosis, was given appropriate treatment by excellent doctors and very caring cancer care systems in both PEI and Nova Scotia. The family gives special mention of appreciation to and for Dr. Scott Campbell, Montague, PE, Dr. Philip Champion of the PEI Cancer Treatment Centre in Charlottetown, Doctors Maggie McGuire and Sue Robinson of the Hematology Clinic in Halifax, Dr. Lebreton, spinal surgeon at the Georges Dumont Hospital in Moncton, NB, the several ER doctors at Yarmouth and the very caring and kind nursing staff of the Yarmouth Cancer Clinic, and 4-North in Yarmouth. Mentions must also be made for the wonderful attention given to Amy by Continuing Care and Home nursing/VON in both PEI and Nova Scotia, which gave relief and folks to look forward to several times a week.
Burial has already taken place privately at the Southville Cemetery, and there will be a memorial service at Southville Church of Christ, Southville, NS, on Friday, Nov. 15 at 2:00 PM, followed by prayers at the gravesite and a pot-luck at the church building for any who wish to participate.
Amy liked flowers, so the family asks anyone who wishes, to bring flowers to the service to then go to the grave after the service. If preferred, the family would appreciate donations to Myeloma Canada (website Myeloma.ca), the Yarmouth Regional Hospital Foundation, Kings County Memorial Hospital, Montague, PE (To make a donation, contact the Kings County Memorial Hospital at (902) 838 0736.), PEI Cancer Treatment Centre. Donations to the PEI Cancer Treatment Centre can be made through the QEH Foundation (qehfoundation.pe.ca/ )
