In Loving Memory of Allan “Al” John Sharkey
On October 27th, 2023 beloved Sharkey family patriarch Allan “Al” John Sharkey passed away peacefully at his home in Port Perry, Ontario at the age of 77.
He was born in 1946 in Edinburgh, Scotland, and grew up in East York, Toronto with his two brothers and best friends David and the late Brian Sharkey. He met his wife Dorothy (nee Laureen and Eldon McCracken) in Minden, where he was stationed as a newly trained OPP officer, and they were married for 53 loving years. Beloved father to Janean, John and his wife Jessica and grandfather to their two children Evan and Charlotte Sharkey.
In his early years he played and coached baseball, and hockey (he was awarded the East York Hockey Association Coach of the Year 1971-1972) and was also an avid golfer. He later worked in sales and owned an automotive battery company before he was forced to retire early due to his health. Although he endured a long battle with his health, he showed up every day to the best of his ability to support his family. He was proud of his children’s and grandchildren’s successes and was very cherished in their lives. He was kind, generous, loving man with great sense of humour. He loved the Beatles and British murder mystery series. Words can only go so far in expressing our love for Al and what a loss this is but we appreciate all of the heartfelt messages of support we have received from those that loved him.
Memorial services are not planned but may be in the future. Cremation has taken place. Interment at the Twelve Mile Lake Cemetery, Carnarvon.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider signing your organ donor card and for donations to be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada and Trillium Gift of Life Network and would be appreciated by the family and can be arranged through the Gordon A.
