Peacefully with family by his side, Alfred Pritchard passed away on Saturday April 13, 2024, at St. Boniface Hospital at 84 years of age.
Remaining to cherish Alfred’s memory are his siblings, Angeline Pritchard, Rosemarie Choquette (Allan), Ernie McDougall (Colleen Cooney), Audrey Sommerfeld (Werner), Todd Pritchard, Doreen Shenroski (Rob); numerous nieces, nephews, as well as his very dear friend Yvette Molgat Rampaul; many good friends and very good neighbors.
He was predeceased by his sister Diane Loewen.
Alfred was born to Willis and Eugenie Pritchard on March 3, 1940, at St. Boniface Hospital.
Alfred was a man of many facets. A grade 12 graduate of Windsor Park Collegiate. During his life he broadened his knowledge and acquired new skills both during and after his working life. In his early years, Alfred became a Certified Down-Hill Ski Instructor and joyfully hit the slopes in both Canada and the US. While he worked a variety of jobs, he still managed to scrape together enough to buy his own truck and go into business for himself which he operated successfully for over 50+ years. Learning all the skills he needed, he built his own home on his beloved acreage, where he grew grapes and won the MB Wine Growers Sherry Award. Alfred taught himself to play guitar; learned to sail his 28ft sailboat on Lake Winnipeg; took singing lessons, becoming a member of a couple of All Male Choirs and attended choir rehearsals during the last week of his life. Although a naturally good dancer, he refined his skills at numerous dance studios and became an outstanding dancer in many dance styles at a variety of venues. Whatever he tackled he gave it his all and brought his best to each and every effort. Alfred was an avid reader of the classics, philosophy, and politics, both current and historical. He loved engaging in conversations with people and never missed an opportunity to hear another’s perspective – he could agree to disagree. Alfred always faced challenges with determination and courage.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to shelters of your choice, for abused women, children or animals.
Alfred could never turn his back on a stray or abandoned cat.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date by invitation.
