We are sad to announce the passing of Alfred Cornelius Murphy. Much beloved Dad to Tim (Shauna) and Tammy, Poppy to Jessica and husband Hein, Grand-Poppy to 6 month old Elijah. Much beloved Brother to Johnny (Eleanor), Bernard, Norbert (Monica), Leonard (Lily), Brendan, Glenda (Glen), Berdena (Ed). Numerous nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his brother Ed, and parents Dolly and Neil.
Leaving behind a large circle of friends and dance partners, with special thoughts to his brother and sister by heart and soul, Glen and Joy.
Dad loved being outdoors. Hiking, canoeing, camping, kayaking, fishing, backpacking. If it entailed getting beyond the beaten path, he was probably doing it. There are not many spots on the Avalon that he hasn’t laid eyes on or beaches that haven’t felt the rub of his canoe or kayak’s hull.
A retired mechanic, he loved tinkering on family and friends’ cars. «thanks for putting in my brakes Al. How much you want for it?» «Oh, don’t worry about it By’.»
Dad was an incredible dancer. Ballroom, 2-step, old fashioned Waltz, doesn’t matter, watch him float across the floor. He will be missed at the local Hall dances.
Thank you to those that have called and sent messages to dad during his brief battle with cancer, and to those that have reached out since his passing. We appreciate each of you.
Thank you to the nurses and staff at Carbonear hospital, especially to the staff on the 7th floor.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Molly’s Dream animal charity.
