It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of Alexander “Sandy” John MacLean, on March 20, 2024.
Born in Long Point on June 13, 1950, he was the son of the late Collin and Flora MacLean.
Sandy was a lifelong mechanic; he spent his career working in shops big and small across Canada. He mentored many a keen, young mechanic during this time. He was not much for being idle, but if he was going to enjoy some downtime, he preferred it to be with a guitar in hand enjoying music with good friends. At any given time, Sandy could tell you where all the pieces of a particular project were, like the 980F Loader. His kindness was as legendary as his memory. He would help anyone and everyone even if he didn’t have enough time for himself.
Sandy is survived by his daughter Medea (Jan Rooyakkers) MacLean, Princeville, son Jadrian, Sydney, sisters Mary (Hugh) McNamara, Long Point, Cathy (Dennis Dickson) MacLean, ON, brother Don (Iris Dooley), ON, grandsons Kaden and Brogan.
Besides his parents, Sandy was predeceased by his wife Mary “Linda” (McDonald) MacLean.
Visitation will take place Tuesday March 26, 2024, from 2 – 4 pm and 6 – 8 pm in Green’s Funeral Home, 507 Bernard Street, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral mass will be held Wednesday March 27, 2024, at 2 pm in Stella Maris Parish, Creignish, with Father Barrett Clare-Johnson officiating. Interment will take place at a later date, in the Stella Maris Parish Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Freedom Foundation of Nova Scotia.
