Obituary of Albert Jennings
Albert Jennings passed away peacefully in the High-crest Sherbrooke Nursing Home on September 20, 2024 at the age of 96. He was born on June 24, 1928 in Cardiff, Wales, the youngest son of George and Winnifred (Taylor) Jennings. He grew up there, and much to his delight, revisited on many occasions, and he never lost his Welsh accent.
In January 1952 at the age of 23 he came to Canada via St. John’s NL. He met Margaret Sweet, from Antigonish, in Montreal and they were married August 14, 1957 at Bayberry Hill in Antigonish County.
Al was a much respected architectural draftsman and worked in both Montreal and Toronto before retiring to Antigonish in 2000. He and Margie joined Club 60 and Al served on the executive there. He especially loved to play cribbage.
He was always kind, generous, thoughtful and very family oriented. Besides visiting and travelling, he loved to chat, sing, laugh and watch rugby. Always willing to lend a hand and help out, his contributions were always noted and appreciated.
Surviving are numerous nieces and nephews and their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Margie; siblings William, George, Winnifred, Mabel, Emily, Tom and their spouses; in-laws Marion (Sweet) and Gordon Buckley, Niagara Falls; Emily (Smith) and Buddy Sweet, Antigonish.
In keeping with Al’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral services at this time. Burial of ashes and celebration of life will take place at a later date.
The family would like to thank all the caring and wonderful staff at High-Crest for the past year and a half. As well, thanks to all for the kindness he received previously while living at The Maples.
