Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Alberta Maxine Northey, at the age of 93 years Maxine was the youngest child of Maxim and Ellen (Nellie) St. George. Sadly, her father passed away when Maxine was 2 years old. When she was 8 years old her mother remarried and Percy Folkins became her stepdad.
In 1948, Maxine married Aldy Northey and they enjoyed 68 years together before Aldy’s passing in 2016.
Although she spent most of her life as a homemaker, Maxine did work at Ida’s Drapery Shop for a short time. She was a very talented person and sewed a number of matching dresses for herself and her daughters. She was ahead of her time and also designed the interior layout of the family homes built on 18th street and then at the farm on the Blue Trail. If born in a different era, mom could have become a graphic designer or even an architect! She had a preference for modern design and furniture and so we likely lived in one of the first open concept homes with the kitchen and living room only separated by a peninsula table.
When we moved to the farm, we kids loved that mom was almost always home when we got home from school. The exception was on the days when she was at a Mae Belle’s meeting. Mom was a great cook and an even better baker. When we were teens, she would play baseball with us and then basketball with her grandkids when they were teens.
Maxine was predeceased by her parents and stepdad; her husband Aldy and her siblings Arnold St. George, Irene Graham and Cassilda Butler and her step sister Dorothy Hird and their spouses. She will be greatly missed by her 4 children: Barry, Debbie (Martin) Van Soest, Randi (Art) Klassen and Craig: her 10 grandchildren and her 15 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Gladys Grabinsky as well as many nieces and nephews.
