Agnes died peacefully on May 2nd in her 100th year of life while in the care of the Dorothy Ley Hospice.
She was the eldest daughter of the late Robert and Agnes Duncanson and loving sister to the late Marguerite S. Moynihan and the late Veronica S. Prest. Agnes was the dear Aunt (Nessie) to her nieces and nephews; Laura and Robert Prest (Elizabeth), Anne Moynihan (Aldo), Vincent, Paula, Catherine and Leo Moynihan.
Agnes was the Great Aunt to Dayna (Jillaine) and Allie. Prior to her death, Agnes wished to share the following highlights of her life: She Joined Parkdale Presbyterian Church at age 17 where she taught Sunday School and was active in the Presbyterian Young People’s Society. Following graduation, she was recruited to work at the Canada Life Assn. and remained there until 1958 when she married Herbert Fitzgerald and moved to Sudbury. Herb and Agnes were very fond of Manitoulin Island and built a cottage there on Lake Mindemoya. This magical place was a source of much enjoyment to dear friends and family from both sides. After Herb passed, she returned to Toronto to be closer to her sisters Peggy and Vera as well as to her wonderful nieces and nephews. At this time, she resumed her position at Canada Life where she remained until her retirement in 1984. Throughout these years, she returned to Knox Church where she worshipped for fifty years and held various offices in the Mildred Gehman Auxiliary. Agnes thoroughly enjoyed her long retirement of 38 years, was involved in several volunteer positions and planned many adventures travelling throughout the world. She moved to Barclay Terrace in Etobicoke where she resided for thirty years and made many wonderful friends! As she said, «It’s been a wonderful, long and blessed life by the grace of God and now it’s time to go home.»
Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Butler Chapel, 4933 Dundas St. W., Etobicoke (between Kipling & Islington Aves.) on Tuesday, May 9th from 4-7 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Wednesday, May 10th at 11 a.m. Interment Park Lawn Cemetery. For those who wish, donations may be made to Dorothy Ley Hospice.
