It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Agnes Helen Jane Smith. Our mom passed away at Elkwood Manor Elkhorn, Manitoba Thursday, October 17, 2024 after living 88 wonderful years.
Mom is survived by her children, Brenda (Gary) Frazer, Sharon (Derald) Henry, and Rob Smith, her special grandchildren, Greg, Crystal, Brendan, Amber (Adam), Amanda, Morgan (Renae), Micheal, Ashley (Colin), and Kaily, the light of her eyes her precious great grandchildren, Sierra, Casey, Jesse, Rayne-Lynn, Nova, Nathan, Piper, William, Lucas, Mason, and Kohen, her brother Elymer, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mom was predeceased by her husband Wally Smith, her parents George and Gladys Crawford, her in-laws Charles and Nellie Smith, her brother James Crawford, brother and sister-in-law Edware (Marie) Crawford, and nephews Jimmy Crawford, Dale Crawford, and Chad Crawford.
Our mom was born on October 18, 1935 in Kandahar, Saskatchewan on the family homestead. Mom spent her childhood days in Kandahar and in Siemens, Saskatchewan. As a young girl, mom moved with her parents to Virden. She found employment with Dr. and Mrs. R.J. Monteith.
In 1956, mom married David Wallace Smith of Virden. To this union three children were born, Brenda Agnes, Sharon Heather, and Robert Dean.
In 1960 mom began her working life as a cook at the Gulf Restaurant. Mom left in 1973 to spend the next 7 years working for W.A. Hellman in the Stedman’s Store. In 1980 mom chose to work at the Westman Nursing Home as a dietary cook, retiring after 20 years spent there. Mom enjoyed working there very much.
Mom loved to travel. She enjoyed visiting her children and their families. The travel bug bit hard as she traveled to Scotland, The Maritimes, Florida, and Alaska. She even took a couple cruise trips with her friends.
Mom had many hobbies that she enjoyed until her eyesight failed her. She liked to knit, crochet, and sew. One of her highlights was being able to sew special quilts for each of her grandchildren. Mom will always be remembered for her love of flowers. You would always be able to find her in her yard in the flower garden.
Mom was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion. She spent many enjoyable hours working the Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
