Marilyn Francis Elkin, originally of Dundas, died unexpectedly on June 13th, 2024 at Headwaters Hospital in Orangeville.
Born on December 18th, 1948, to Harry and Bea Elkin, Marilyn grew up in Dundas, Ontario. She graduated from Parkside High School, and stayed local, receiving her BA at McMaster University. Upon graduation, Marilyn took a job with Canada Post, and delivered mail for several years in Hamilton, before furthering her education at Western University, receiving her Masters in Library and Information Science in 1989.
In her second career, Marilyn worked for several Law Libraries in the Peel and Dufferin areas, and made a positive impact in the Law community. She settled in Orangeville – close to her work, and to her lifelong passion, horses.
Marilyn loved horses, and riding. Her pursuit of all things Equestrian culminated in her achieving the rank of Senior Dressage Steward with Equestrian Canada, with which she traveled the province judging shows, and making friends. She also volunteered with the LongRun Thoroughbred Retirement Society, and the Orangeville Probus Club, both of which brought her much satisfaction.
Survived by her brother Bob (Shelley), her nephew Andy (Angie), her niece Erin (Manny), and 5 great-nieces and nephews.
Missed and fondly remembered by her colleagues in Law, Libraries, and Equestrian.
Celebration of Marilyn’s Life will be held at the Dods & McNair Funeral Home, Chapel & Reception Centre, 21 First St., Orangeville on Monday, July 8th, 2024 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. with words of remembrance at 3:30 pm. Marilyn’s ashes will be laid to rest at Grove Cemetery in Dundas on Monday July 15th, 2024 at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Donkey Sanctuary or LongRun Thoroughbred Retirement Society would be appreciated.
A tree will be planted in memory of Marilyn in the Dods & McNair Memorial Forest at the Island Lake Conservation Area, Orangeville. 22nd Annual Dedication Service will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2024 at 2:00 p.m.
