Susan Marie Eckstein passed away peacefully at the West Parry Sound Health Centre on Friday May 19, 2023 at the age of 78. She was born on January 2, 1945 in Windsor to the late Alda and late Roland Sagala. She married the love of her life, Larry Eckstein in June of 1972, who predeceased her in 1990. She was a loving mother to Krissy Schneider (Larry) and the late Michael Eckstein, a cherished grandmother to Emily Schneider (Will) and Brody Schneider and a dear sister of Pat Morris and the late Carol Day (Bill). She will be fondly remembered by her nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Sue began her career in Parry Sound as a nurse at Belvedere Heights, where she worked until she could no longer nurse due to her arthritis. She changed her career to support her husband in his dream of opening and running Eckstein Masonry Supply in 1984. When Larry passed away, she carried on his legacy for another 12 years, growing the successful business. Her passion for nursing remained so she volunteered on the Board of Directors for St. Joseph’s Hospital for several years. She was very involved in the amalgamation between the Parry Sound District General Hospital and St. Joseph’s Hospital. She was on the building committee for the new West Parry Sound Health Centre and continued to serve on the West Parry Sound Health Centre Board of Directors for 11 more years.
Please join us at the Torrance Funeral Home (89 Bowes St. Parry Sound) on Thursday, June 1, 2023 from 10 – 11 am for visitation with a Celebration of Life to follow at 11 am. In recognition of Sue’s passion for nursing and healthcare, the family would appreciate donations to the West Parry Sound Health Centre Foundation if desired. Cremation has taken place.
