Wilson Helen Theresa – November 30 avis de deces

Surrounded by family and great love, Helen Theresa Wilson (nee MacEachern) died peacefully, under the compassionate care of the staff, at The Riverview Manor in Montague on Wednesday November 30th 2022, in her 94th year. Helen was predeceased by her beloved husband, of 59 years, Noel. Cherished mother “Mommy” of Paula Wilson-Walsh (Pius), Suzanne Carr (James), Jane Wilson (Sterling (Earl) Hickox), and Mark. Loving and adoring grandmother “Nana” to Sam and Jed Walsh and Emily Jane and Alison Carr. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents (Mary Jane) Janey and Paul Joseph MacEachern. Helen was the last surviving member of a large family of brothers and sisters. Helen was Born in Fairfield, St. Columba parish, PEI, studied at Souris Convent and Notre Dame College in Charlottetown. Helen taught school on the Baltic Road and Southport and later trained and worked as a lab technician at the Charlottetown Hospital. Helen formed close friendships during her time at the convent and Notre Dame which carried over to her working years at the hospital and continued throughout her life. She was fun loving with a sharp sense of witt, a life long learner, and a voracious reader. It was during her time working as a lab technician that Helen met and fell in love with the equally fun loving Noel Wilson after being, accidentally on purpose, pushed into a snowbank. Helen and Noel married on September 5th 1955. Helen continued the work she loved as a lab tech while they lived in Charlottetown. They moved to Cardigan in 1961. As their family grew, Helen got back into teaching as a substitute teacher. Helen was a woman with a strong and unwavering faith and she lived that faith deeply every day in service to her family and others. She was an active member of her community who graciously shared her knowledge and wisdom. She had been honoured as Cardigan’s Canada Day Citizen of the year. Helen was a CWL member, she taught catechism, was involved with RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults), was a Girl Guide Leader, and was a member of the Victory Chimes Seniors Club. Helen
was always ready and willing to help her neighbour and always made room for more at the
table. She was a woman with courage, she learned to swim at the age of 40 in order to
overcome her fear of water. She was an avid walker, she loved picking berries, she enjoyed playing golf and loved cross country skiing. She also loved music and dancing and found much joy in the simple things in life and shared that joy with everyone around her. Helen was a devoted wife and mother who took special delight in her grandchildren. Mommy, we will always love you and be forever grateful. To the end you taught by example how to live with courage, grace, goodness, love, and humility. We are deeply grateful for the amazing care from Dr. Johnston over the years and for the support of Home Care and private help which allowed our mother to remain at home to the age of 91. We are also deeply grateful for the care from Dr. MacLeod and staff while Mommy lived at Riverview Manor. We thank you all for being with us on this journey. Resting at All Saints Roman Catholic Church, Cardigan, for visitation on Sunday, December 4th from 2-6 p.m. Funeral Mass to be celebrated at All Saints Roman Catholic Church, Cardigan on Monday, December 5th at 2 p.m. (Masks are encouraged) In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Helen’s memory to All Saints Cemetery Fund, or the Cardigan Fire Department.
