Obituary For Tibor «Frank» Smode
With immense sadness, we announce that Tibor “Frank” Smode, passed away peacefully at his Valleyview, AB, residence during his sleep on Sunday, March 20, 2022, at the age of 55 years.
Frank was born on July 19, 1966, in Edmonton AB, and raised in Grande Cache, AB. He was welcomed into the world by his big sister Susan and big brother Adolf Jr. Growing up, Frank spent his time in the outdoors following around his big brother, who became his best friend throughout his younger years. They had a passion for dirt biking, sledding, and getting into mischief. Both the boys were mechanically inclined which was a skill taught to them by their father. There was not much they could not fix. Frank was a very talented artist and put those skills to use by building a career in the autobody industry.
While residing with this brother in Calgary, AB, in 1983, Frank met the love of his life, Donna Cross. They welcomed their son Douglas Frank Smode into the world on July 16, 1986. To his last breath, Doug was the light of his life. He couldn’t have been prouder of his son. He was known to brag about Doug to anyone that would listen. Frank settled down in the Valleyview area after finding peace and contentment from having his family once again. He was always grateful to have reconnected with his son and cherished every moment spent with Doug and his extended children, and Doug’s siblings.
I struggle to find the words to express what an amazing man Frank was.
Frank was always eager to help, and his conversations were always appreciated. He was always up to share a story from his life’s travel. From each story, he would share a lesson learned or knowledge he had gained.
Frank was a free spirit and he seemed to never settle in one place for too long. His life journey took him to many places, where he met many people and impacted each one of them. He will always be remembered for his fierce friendships, compassion for others and his quick and intelligent sense of humour. His heart was big and filled with kindness and understanding. He was accepting of all others and created a space for anyone he crossed paths with.
Although he was too humble to see himself for the person he was, Frank was loved by many and left an imprint on the hearts of those he touched. We miss you so much Frankie. Your son was so proud of all your hard work and commitment. We feel cheated that you had to leave us already, but we know your heart was full, you had so much love with your family around. You finally found the happiness you deserved.
Left to mourn the loss of Frank is his son Douglas (Alix) Smode; his extended children: Anna (Kamyar) Sharkosh, Danielle (Whylie) Cross, and Micheal Oryshchuk; his lifelong best friend Donna Cross; his very special friend Wanda Fox; as well as sister Susan Burtic.
Frank was predeceased by his mother and father Susan Smode and Adolf Sr, and his brother Adolf Jr.
A Celebration of Life for Frank will take place in June, at Muskoseepi Park in Grande Prairie, AB. Details to follow at a later date.
In life we loved you, in death, we love you still. In our hearts you hold a place, no one else will ever fill. Until we meet again, rest easy, untroubled by worries, surrounded by love.
