COLEMAN, Sophia Joan
The family of Sophia Joan Coleman is sad to announce her passing on Monday, October 17, 2022, at Etobicoke General Hospital at the age of 73 years. Beloved wife of Edward Coleman (deceased), and loving stepmother to Natalie and Eddie Coleman. Survived by sisters Maureen and Inez (James Savage) and predeceased by brothers Ivan (Greta), Eldon (Isabelle), Tennyson, and sister Bernadette and many loving nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and nephews. Sophia immigrated to Canada in 1970 and started working at Sunnybrook Hospital in 1971 where she worked for 28 years and developed long-lasting friendships with colleagues. She was a member of the Canorient Seniors Club, the Anglo-Indian Association of Canada (AIAC), and the St. Vincent de Paul Society. She was an avid cook and was frequently asked for her recipes and also had a passion for reading and writing. She loved spending time with family and friends and enjoyed traveling, going on pilgrimages and cruises. Her last cruise was a Mediterranean one and her last major trip was to China in 2018.
The family would like to thank the medical staff at Humber River, Sunnybrook, Runnymede Rehab, St. Joseph’s, and Etobicoke General hospitals, as well as the Community Care workers from Central West and the St. Elizabeth nurses. Special thanks also to the Transfiguration parish, clergy, and eucharistic ministers as well as Christine and Ian Pinto and Mike Herlihe for their constant care and support. Family and friends will be received at Newediuk Funeral Chapel, Kipling Chapel, 2058 Kipling Avenue, Etobicoke, M9W 4J9 on Sunday, October 23, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Transfiguration of Our Lord Church, 45 Ludstone Drive, Etobicoke, Ontario, M9R 2J2 on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at 10.30 a.m. The link for Live streaming of the Mass will be available on the Newediuk Funeral Home website.
