Shirley Rebecca Collier
1947-2022
Shirley Rebecca Collier, 75, of Forest Dale Home passed
away on December 1st, 2022 at the home as her family was by her side
during her last few days.
Shirley was born in Woodward’s Cove,
Grand Manan, NB on January 12th 1947 the daughter of the late Leo and
Rachel (Foote) Stanley.
Shirley was small but mighty, don’t
let her size fool you, when she was determined to do something she
would. She last worked at the Hopewell Rocks in the kitchen and loved
her breaks as she took in the beauty of nature at the Rocks. She loved
being outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. She enjoyed times with
the grandchildren and great grandchildren, teaching them how to fish
and made many cherished memories by the brooks in Albert County. She
enjoyed watching the hummingbirds and had many hummingbird feeders
around wherever she could. She loved to play cards and maybe cheat a
little, many times she got away with it, her little grin and smirk
would sometimes give it away. In her later years she spent her time
watching game shows.
Shirley loved her dream catchers and
they had great significance to her. Native American cultures believe
that both good and bad dreams fill the air at night. The dreamcatcher
acts like a spider’s web by trapping the bad dreams or visions while
allowing the good ones to filter through. The bad dreams caught in the
web get destroyed when the sunlight of morning hits the dreamcatcher,
while the good dreams filter down through the feathers and gently
reach the sleeping person below.
» Though she’s not here, in your
heart she stays. May she visit you in dreams when asleep you
lay.»
She will be deeply missed by her sons, Patrick
Collier (Carolyn) of Germantown and Gerald Collier of Lynn Lake,
Manitoba; her cherished grandchildren, Joshua (Natasha), Ryan
(Leighanne), Jade Steeves (Ryan), Brandon, Kendra Drew (Rob), Rebecca;
her treasured great grandchildren, Scott, Madeline, Kaydence, Audrey,
Kensleigh, Keira, Ava, Emma,
Daniel, Tianna, Dominic and Raelyn; sister,
Marion Mason of Castilia, Grand Manan. She will also be missed by
several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents she was
predeceased by her husband, Alban Gerard Collier; sister, Juanita
Stanley; brothers, Melvin, Lester, Francis and Ivan; grandson, Gerald
and great grandson, Tavion.
Honouring Shirley’s own wishes there
will be no visitation or funeral service. A private graveside service
will be held in the Hopewell Cemetery, Hopewell Hill, NB at a later
date.
For those who wish donations to the
Shepody Food Bank or the charity of the donor’s choice would be
appreciated.
Arrangements are in the care of the
