Mom’s obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Shirley Sealey on July 21, 2022. Our loving mom was born to Lawrence and Olis Shields on a farm in the Ridgedale area January 22, 1933. She grew up there with siblings Doug, Audrey, Ron, Garth, Joyce and Merlin. Her first job in the early 50’s was operator for the telephone exchange run by her parents and located in their home. She was lured away from Ridgedale by a handsome young man who stole her heart. She married Stanley Sealey in July 1954. They started their life together on the farm. Soon after they spent some time in Hinton and Flin Flon returning to the farm in 1960 with an addition to the family, a daughter Sandra. Three more children joined the family over the next 9 years; Arlene, Brenda and Kelly. A loving family was now complete. Mom and dad worked hard together but also made lots of time to enjoy family, friends, travel and the lake. They displayed admirable love for one another throughout all situations, good and bad. They retired to Tisdale in 1992, leaving Kelly to take over the farm. Mom transitioned to town life and kept busy with hobbies, gardening, hosting family and friends and volunteering in the community. The grandchildren started coming in 1982, building to a total of 8. Then came the great grandchildren with a current count of 9. Each addition became a great source of pride and joy. Visits were highly anticipated and appreciated. Mom loved unconditionally and was a role model extraordinaire. Throughout later years, and as Alzheimer’s disease took a stronger hold, Dad was mom’s loving, tireless caregiver. Even after her move to Arborfield special care Lodge 5 years ago he continued to play an active part in her care. He was there so often others likely thought he was a staff member. Goodness, he even took up hairdressing! We take much comfort in knowing Mom is finally in a peaceful place free of disease.
Mom is survived by her loving husband Stan; daughters, Sandra (Glenn) McMillan, Arlene (Rick) Helgason, Brenda (Randy) Hueser, son Kelly (Paula Burroughs); grandchildren Cody (Alicia), Lacey (Colman), Chrystan (Wesley), Sheena Lee (Michael), Vanessa (Riley), Dayton (Jeanelle), Declan and Emma; great grandchildren Solveigh, Faryn, Keah, Briya, Kainyn, Tensley, Maris, Kolsen, Coen. Also survived by siblings Joyce (Larry) Springman and Merlin (Evangeline) Shields; sisters-in-law Janice (Garth) Shields and Phyllis (Ron) Shields.
Sadly she was predeceased by their first born, Lyle, in infancy as well as her parents and other siblings. Also passing before her were Stan’s parents, Leslie and Clara; his siblings Iva, Marjorie, Walter, Dorothy, Harold and Florence; nieces and nephews, Lois, Jean, Larry, Don, Lionel, and Greg.
At Mom’s request there will be no formal funeral service. A private family celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
Our family would like to acknowledge the staff of the Arborfield Special Care Lodge who have provided the utmost care for our mom. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the lodge:
